Easter Scavenger Hunt

This year, we're having a different type of Easter Hunt.  The girls receive a letter from the Easter bunny and get clues they have to follow to find their baskets. 

I made 11 different rhyming clues that take them to all different locations around the house. 

When they get to each new place they find the next paw print clue and a little gift.  In the bathtub, they find bubbles, when they look in the oven they'll find shrinky dinks.  Looking forward to a fun filled Easter.  Can't wait to see their excitement!

Patchwork Dress

I sewed the Penny's Patchwork Twirler dress by Create Kids Couture.  If you haven't sewn one of their patterns, you're missing out.  Shannon and Tiffany are always designing one cute pattern right after another. 

This one definitely has a lot of twirl and when Mia put it on she just wanted to spin round and round.  That didn't make it so easy to get a picture.  

Riley Blake fabrics are so pretty and this combination worked great for this dress. 

Seuss Outfit

Mia wore this outfit for Seuss Day.  I wish I had some of that cute Cat in the Hat fabric.  I didn't even have time to order any.  I gathered some fabrics and put them together to make something "Seusslike" that would work for her.

I love the color combination.

She loved getting her picture taken with the Cat. 

A Few Sewing Projects

Wow!  I was able to get a picture of the girls looking in the direction of the camera at the same time...it doesn't happen often.  Brooke made this cute little craft from here.  So her embroidered shirt design from Digistitches was perfect. 

How sweet!

Mia picked out the monkey fabric for her skirt with a monkey applique from Embroidery Boutique.  Of course, she made a Valentine box with monkeys on it too. 

Mardi Gras Shirts and they're all set with beads to give to their friends. 

Ruffles Galore Pants

Jenny from Seamingly Smitten let me sew her new Ruffles Galore Pants.  My girls love ruffly things so this was something I knew Elise was going to love to wear.  Sure enough...as soon as I finished the outfit...she wanted to put it on.   The pattern was so easy to follow, quick to sew, and the directions and pictures were awesome.  

It really is a great pattern for any level of sewer who wants to make something cute.

 You can make a single layer of ruffles or a double layer of ruffles.  Of course, my daughter wanted more ruffles.

 I used this applique for the shirt which went well with the pants.

Monopoly.....Wacky Hat Day!

My daughter told me that she needed to make a wacky hat for school. She LOVES Monopoly and likes everything to go together. She looked around the house and found a hat that looks like the one the banker wears. I wanted to embroider the word "banker" on it but..."No mom....I need to make the hat.  You need to make me an outfit for tomorrow.  You can use that Monopoly fabric you bought." 

I was going to make a pillow case with this fabric. 

Instead, we have this skirt.  The hat she made looked cute with the Monopoly money, dice, and the property cards.  She was happy with how everything turned out. 

Plum Creek Prairie Girl Dress

This pattern is from Tenderfeet Stitches.  It's thePlum Creek Prairie Girl dress. 

I love the look of these ruffly sleeves and Elise is thrilled that the dress has a bow.  With this pattern, you can make long or short sleeves and add an apron if you choose.

Pretty Peasant Dress

 When I got the Malyn's Pretty Peasant Dress pattern to sew for Create Kids Couture, I knew I was going to use the horse print fabric by Michael Miller.   I love the colors in the prints.  Each time I sew a Pattern by Create Kids Couture, it immediately becomes a new favorite. 

Of course, she can't wear this dress without her pink cowgirl boots.

Christmas Cutie Grinch Dress

This grinch fabric is so bright and colorful.  I used Sophia's Open Back Ruffled Pattern to make this dress for my daughter to wear to school. 

Polka dots and ruffles what a great combination. 

 All of the Create Kids Couture patterns I've sewn have been awesome and I always end up with the cutest dresses that my daughter loves.  Can't wait to see what Shannon and Tiffany come up with next.  Be sure to check out their shop.

Knit Crossover Tunic

Have I mentioned how much I love Jocole's patterns?  This is her Crossover Tunic pattern.  Whenever I sew any of her patterns, I know the pieces will fit together perfectly like puzzle pieces. 

Best of all, her patterns are easy to follow, quick to sew, and full of helpful tips for working with knits. 

She also provides different length options so the tunic could be worn with pants or made as a dress. 

Corduroy Pants and Lily Bird Studio Discount Code

This is my first time sewing a Lily Bird Studio pattern.  These are the Ben and Mia pants.  They're great for boys or girls.  She also provides directions for 3 different versions of the pants. 

There are so many things to like about this pattern but my favorite is the piping and the lined pockets. 

Look!  I even have the pockets perfectly aligned with the fabric.  Yay!  

I was so excited about the pants, I didn't pay attention to the wrinkly shirt.

Peasant Dress

Aqua is one on my new favorite colors. 

I think my daughter looks so cute in her new dress. 

I added ric rac and flower embellsihments to jazz it up. 

It's another Create Kids Couture Pattern. 

I love how they included directions for adding the lace.  

It gives the peasant style dress a new look. 

They have so many adorable patterns that are perfect for girly girls.

Basic Knit Leggings

My local fabric store doesn't have a large selection of knit fabrics.  I found some that I really liked at fabric.com and I used this pattern to make a pair of leggings.  It doesn't get any easier.  I made these in less time than it would have taken me to go to the store, pick out a pair, and get back home. 

Now, I always have my eyes open for cute knit prints. Please share if you know of any other great fabric sources. 



Double Layer Ruffle Dress

I heart making ruffly girly dresses and Create Kids Couture offers some of the cutest patterns. I have never been disappointed with any of their patterns and my daughter never wants to take the pretty dresses off.  I'm enjoying sewing for her. 

Warning.....SHINY!!!

I knew that I was going to use Jocole's  patterns to make a knit shirt and ruffle pants.  I had a picture in my mind of how this outfit would look.  How quickly plans change.  When we got to the fabric store, my daughter begged me to get this fabric.  If you saw the look on her face and how badly she wanted it...you would understand why I couldn't say no. 

At this age...there's no such thing as too shiny. 

The patterns and the directions are awesome.  You don't need a lot of fabric or you could repurpose old shirts. 

Twirly Dress

I found some new patterns that are fun and girly....exactly what my daughter likes. This pattern is

Lola's Tiered Twirly Dress.  It's super easy and super cute. 

I can see this dress in so many different color combinations. I thought these prints would be perfect for fall and when it gets colder, she could wear a long sleeve shirt under it.   Can't wait to sew some of the other patterns they have listed.....lots of cute ones. 

Apple Cake Pops

I heard about cake pops but I wasn't really sure how to make them.  When I found this cake pop book, I was amazed to see all the different types of cake pops you could make. I had to bring it home with me.   It didn't take too long for my girls to start arguing over who would look at the book first.  As they were looking through it....I heard, "Look at this mom, look at this one, can we make this one for Halloween, can we make this one for Christmas?"  It didn't end there but you get the idea.  I told them we would start with one of the ones that looked easier. 

Apple cake pops would be perfect for back to school.  

We bought red chocolate melts, cake mix, frosting, green chocolate covered sunflower seeds, lolipop sticks, eyes, and edible food writers.  

Here they are!  

The girls had a a blast making these.

Mia brought this batch to school so she could share them with her class.  

We wanted to draw the eyelashes and mouths on like they showed in the book but our food writers didn't really show up. If anyone has any suggestions about using these or a good brand to try, please let me know. 

It wasn't enough to just make cake pops.  "Mom can you make me an apple dress?"

I made this dress for her.  When I was looking at the fabric and thinking about how it would go together, I pictured something much cuter.  Thank goodness she was happy with it.

 

Circle Flounce Dress

This pattern is well written with easy to follow directions and great accompanying pictures. 

This pattern comes in sizes for younger girls

but I'm thrilled that she makes the patterns for older girls too. 

The snap closures are a fun addition. 

Sock Monkey Outfit

Mia loves monkeys.  She wears her sock monkey slippers all the time.  When I saw this fabric, I knew I had to make her something with it. 

The embroidery design on the shirt came from embroidery boutique.

Of course, she needed a matching bow.

Knit Skirt for School

This skirt was inspired by a picture I saw in a magazine. 

I like how the angled pieces give the skirt a different look.
